The International Congress of Young Booksellers took place in Finland this year, from 10th of June to 16th of June. It is the 50th Anniversary year for ICYB. This year's ICYB had a record number of participants, all in all 57! Around 30 participants came from around Europe and Russia and the rest from Finland.
The theme of the Congress was Look into the Future! Bookshop in year 2017. What are the threats and the competitive advantages? What will the future bring to the bookshops and what kind of place should the bookshop be in advance to stay in the business?
On the last day the ICYB presidency was handed over to a new president: Elise de Bres from the Netherlands gave the brand new president's gavel to Stephanie Polberg from Germany. An incoming President was also chosen, she is Maria Parikou from Greece, who also organizes next year's ICYB. A vice president was also chosen, she is Susanne Meinel from Germany.
